Instructions

1
Prep Preheat the oven to 375°F. Grease a small baking dish with butter, dust with dried breadcrumbs, tilting to coat evenly.
2
Sauté Heat the olive oil over medium heat; add the onion and garlic and cook 3 minutes until softened and translucent.
3
Brown Add the ground beef and cook over medium-high heat 5 minutes, breaking it up, until no pink remains and meat browns.
4
Simmer Stir in canned tomatoes, salt, pepper, and oregano; simmer over medium-low heat 8 minutes until sauce thickens and coats the meat.
5
Build Mix the cooked arborio rice with milk, half the parmesan, and nutmeg until creamy and evenly coated.
6
Layer Spoon half the rice into the dish, top with beef mixture, scatter mozzarella over it, then cover with remaining rice, pressing gently.
7
Bake Sprinkle remaining parmesan over the top and bake at 375°F for 20 minutes until the top turns golden and edges bubble.
8
Rest Remove from the oven and let stand 10 minutes so the layers firm up enough to hold their shape.
9
Plate Run a knife around the edge, invert the timbale onto a plate, and serve warm.
