Cottage Cheese Curry Bowl

Paneer cubes simmered in a spiced tomato-onion curry with ginger, garlic, cumin and garam masala, finished with a swirl of cream and served over basmati rice. The curry balances tang from tomatoes, warmth from whole and ground spices, and richness from the paneer, creating a vegetarian bowl rooted in North Indian home cooking.

Instructions

1
Prep Cube the paneer, finely chop the onion and tomato, and measure out the ginger-garlic paste and spices.
2
Heat the vegetable oil in a saucepan over medium heat and add the cumin seeds; cook for 30 seconds until fragrant and sizzling.
3
Add the onion and cook over medium heat for 5 minutes, stirring often, until soft and golden at the edges.
4
Stir in the ginger-garlic paste and cook for 1 minute until the raw smell fades and it sticks to the pan.
5
Add the tomato, tomato paste, turmeric, and chili powder; cook over medium-low heat for 7 minutes, mashing occasionally, until the tomato breaks down and oil separates at the edges.
6
Pour in the water, season with salt, and add the paneer cubes; cover and simmer over low heat for 5 minutes until the paneer softens slightly without becoming rubbery.
7
Stir in the garam masala and heavy cream; simmer uncovered over low heat for 2 minutes until glossy.
8
Plate Spoon the basmati rice into a bowl, ladle the paneer curry alongside it, and scatter cilantro over the top.
