GrubPlanit Recipe Clipper

Chrome Extension · Privacy Policy

What this extension sends, stores, and never touches

Recipe Clipper turns a video link or a fridge photo into a recipe. This page states plainly what data that requires, where it goes, and what it doesn't do — no legal filler, no vague promises.

Effective 9 September 2026 Applies to GrubPlanit Recipe Clipper v1.0.0

The short version

§1

What the extension actually does

Recipe Clipper has two features, and both only run when you take an explicit action — there is no background activity.

Get a recipe from a video

You paste a TikTok, Instagram or YouTube link (or the extension notices you're already on one and offers to use it). That link is sent to GrubPlanit's server, which fetches the video's public caption or transcript and uses Claude to reconstruct a recipe — ingredients, method, nutrition. The result is saved on GrubPlanit's side as a "menu card" and shown to you.

Scan a fridge photo, or select an area of any page

You choose a photo from your device, or drag a selection box over a dish or ingredients shown on any webpage you're viewing. In the second case, the extension takes a screenshot of your visible browser tab and crops it down to only the area you selected — the rest of the page is discarded before anything is sent. That image is uploaded to GrubPlanit's server, read by Claude's vision model to identify ingredients, and matched against GrubPlanit's recipe catalogue (or used to generate a new recipe if nothing matches).

§2

Browser permissions, and what each one is actually for

activeTabLets the extension read the URL of only the tab you're currently looking at, and only at the moment you click something — never a background list of tabs or history.
scriptingDraws the selection box when you choose "select an area of this page." Runs only on the one tab you're in, only after you click the button.
storageKeeps your most recent result on your own device so it's still there if you close and reopen the extension popup. Never leaves your computer.
notificationsShows a system notification when a scan finishes, since the page-capture flow closes the popup while you're selecting an area.
contextMenusAdds "Extract recipe with GrubPlanit" to the right-click menu on video links, so a link can be clipped without opening it first.

The extension can reach grubplanit.com and nowhere else — it has no access to any other website's data, cookies, or content beyond what you explicitly select.

§3

What's stored, and for how long

DataWhereTied to you personally?
Video links you submitThe caption/transcript text and the recipe built from it.GrubPlanit's database, indefinitelyNo — not linked to any account or identity
Fridge/area-capture photosThe image itself, plus the ingredients and recipes it produced.GrubPlanit's cloud storage (Amazon S3) and database, indefinitelyNo — stored as a guest scan, no login exists in this extension
Your last resultYour own browser's local storage onlyStays on your device; GrubPlanit never receives this copy

Being direct about a gap: there's no in-extension button yet to delete a photo or result you've submitted. Email hello@grubplanit.com with a rough time and description and we'll remove it manually.

§4

Third parties involved

GrubPlanit's server — not the extension itself — sends your submitted text or image to Anthropic's Claude API to perform the recipe extraction or ingredient recognition. Anthropic processes that content under its own privacy terms as GrubPlanit's data processor; it isn't used to train Anthropic's models.

Video captions and transcripts are fetched from the public API of whichever platform the link is from (TikTok, Instagram or YouTube) — only the caption/transcript text, never your account or session on that platform.
